Burlington International Airport Abbreviation Code

Burlington International Airport (BTV) is a civil-military airport located in Burlington, Vermont. It is the busiest airport in the state and serves as the gateway to northern New England. The airport’s history dates back to 1931 when a small dirt runway was constructed by local businessman, William H. Turner. In 1933, the City of Burlington purchased the land for $2,000 and built a larger runway for private aircraft use. In 1940, the US Army Air Corps leased the land from the city and began using it as a training facility for fighter pilots during World War II. After the war ended in 1945, the airport was returned to civilian use and underwent numerous renovations and expansions over the next several decades. In 1962, it became an international airport with regular flights to Montreal and Toronto. In 1974, Burlington International Airport was officially designated an international port of entry by US Customs and Border Protection. Since then it has grown significantly in size with two main terminals which serve many different airlines providing domestic flights within the United States as well as international destinations throughout Canada and Europe.
