Cheyenne Regional Airport Abbreviation Code

Cheyenne Regional Airport was originally built in 1941 as Cheyenne Army Air Base. Its primary purpose was to serve as a training facility for the United States Army Air Corps. During World War II, the base trained over 6,000 pilots and aircrews. After the war, the base was transferred to the United States Air Force and renamed Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in 1949. It served as an operational base until 1967 when it was closed due to budget cuts.

In 1974, Cheyenne Regional Airport opened and took over some of the facilities that had been used by Warren AFB. Initially only serving general aviation aircraft, commercial flights began operating from Cheyenne Regional Airport in 1980 and continued to grow over time. In 1988, a new terminal building was constructed with a large observation deck that allowed visitors to watch airplanes take off and land. The airport has continued to expand ever since with additional hangars and other facilities being added in recent years to accommodate both commercial and private aircrafts.
