BFF is an English acronym.
The meaning of BFF is, as an acronym, Best Friend Forever, or will be, translated to the Portuguese, means “best friends forever”.
Even being present in the English language, BFF has become a term that is much used in Brazil, mainly thanks to social networks – that have been responsible for spreading that acronym.
For example: “I enjoy going out with my BFF!” (“I like going out with my BFF (best friend)”)
It is clear that before the use of BFF, the girls used to call only as a “best friend” – although it is still in use, the BFF replaces the expression, giving to understand that it is a “true friend”, that is, that will be a friendship hypothetically forever.
The friends characterized as “BFF” have aspects clear: the intimacy, trust and a sense of permanence. By this, the contacts tend to be strengthened through shared experiences.
In the dictionary of american Oxford, is included the acronym “BFF” since 2010, and that for this dictionary, the term originated in 1996.
Normally, all the girls have a BFF. This aspect facilitates that the girl did not feel excluded (lest you think that it is a person alone and without friends) and that you have someone you trust and ask for help.
Worth mentioning that BFF can also indicate a true friendship between two boys, or even, a friendship between a girl and a boy.
BFF is a term that commonly appears in the media and that is associated with the famous people and celebrities who become “best friends” in a matter of hours (or more popularly: “night for day”). Previously, they did not know each other and begin to appear always together, becoming “BFFs”. In the great majority of cases, this situation ends and the normality back in a matter of time.
The acronym BFF appears on an episode of the sitcom Friends, when the character Phoebe Buffay (played by Lisa Kudrow) uses this term.
