The African film festival »FESPACO« (Festival Panafricain du Cinéma et de la Télévision de Ouagadougou) and the arts and crafts show of West Africa »SIAO« (Salon International de l’Artisanat Ouagadougou) take place here every two years. Ouagadougou has v. a. agricultural processing industry (cotton ginning, textile factory, tannery), also brickworks, metal and wood processing, beverage production, cement factory; is at the center of major transport routes ( Abidjan Railway), international airport.

In the 15th century, Ouagadougou, as the seat of the Moro Naba (King), became the political center of the Mosi empire of the same name, which continued to exist after the French occupation (September 5, 1896). 1918–32 and since 1947 capital of Upper Volta (today Burkina Faso).
