In the 15th century, Ouagadougou, as the seat of the Moro Naba (King), became the political center of the Mosi empire of the same name, which continued to exist after the French occupation (September 5, 1896). 1918–32 and since 1947 capital of Upper Volta (today Burkina Faso).
