Utrecht

One of these is Utrecht, which can be described as an Amsterdam in miniature, with an Old Town from the Middle Ages and cobbled pedestrian streets located around canals.

The city is located quite in the middle of the country, about four miles southeast of the capital Amsterdam. Utrecht has a two-thousand-year-old history, and was the most important city in the northern Netherlands during the Middle Ages. Today Utrecht has the country’s largest university, and one of the Netherlands’ best football team, FC Utrecht. Utrecht is also the football legend Marco van Basten’s hometown.
