MARKETING TERMS AND ACRONYMS

Anglicisms, abbreviations and terms that are not always self-explanatory are often used in marketing, such as SEA, SMB and SOV. In this series of articles, I would like to shed some light and briefly explain selected marketing terms. This article is about terms that start with the letter en S.

social proof

The "social proof", i.e. the social proof, describes the fact that people like to blend in with the crowd and orientate themselves on the behavior of other people. Marketing likes to take advantage of this principle, for example by using references or recommendations.

Sales folder

A sales folder supports sales. A sales folder (= sales or offer folder) contains, for example, product and company information as well as information on special promotions or discounts.

Sales Promotion

Sales promotion is nothing more than sales promotion and thus advertising.

satellite page

Satellite pages are websites that are set up to strengthen the central company page through link references or to place certain keywords in order to improve search engine results.

(Customer) Satisfaction Score

This key performance indicator shows relative customer satisfaction on the social web.

screening

Screening (also known as zero point measurement) means a form of data collection in the context of social media monitoring, in which the entire web is searched for relevant content. It's kind of a one-time snapshot.

SEA

SEA is an abbreviation for Search Engine Advertising, which means "search engine advertising" . This means the paid placement of advertisements in search engines.

seeding

The English term seeding means “sowing” in German and means in social media marketing the targeted placement (sowing) of the viral message.

segmentation

In segmentation, complex units are broken down into individual segments, i.e. parts or sections. In marketing, for example, markets can be segmented. The overall market is broken down according to certain criteria and homogeneous groups of buyers are formed.

S.E.M

SEM stands for " Search Engine Marketing " , which translates to search engine marketing . As a sub-area of ​​online marketing, SEM has the task of increasing visibility and ultimately access to your own website through an optimal presence in search engines.

sentiment ratio

Sentiment ratio means something like "mood rate" and is one of the few established key figures in social media monitoring alongside the share of voice. It shows the proportion of positive, negative, or neutral user voices on the web.

SEO

The acronym SEO stands for English. S earch Engine Optimization, which means “search engine optimization” and therefore describes online marketing measures that lead to your own websites appearing higher in the organic search engine results.

SERP

SERP is the abbreviation for “ Search Engine Result Page used in online marketing. This describes the page that is displayed by search engines such as Google after a search process has been completed and that outputs the search results.

share of voice

The share of voice (SOV) has established itself as one of the few standard metrics in social media marketing and describes the proportion of mentions about your own brand in relation to the total mentions.

slogan

A slogan is a motto, a slogan or a memorable advertising slogan.

social media

Social media is the media phenomenon of our decade and is based on a paradigm shift in communication between companies and their target groups. Social media is online dialogue and communication without spatial borders, with the help of social media networks, services and platforms.

SMB

The abbreviation stands for small and medium -sized business, i.e. small and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs).

SMM

S ocial M edia M arketing (SMM) as a sub-discipline of online marketing is described as a form of sales promotion that aims to achieve one's own marketing goals through the use of and participation in social communication and exchange processes.

SMO

SMO stands for S ocial M edia Optimization and means the optimization of websites so that they can be included more easily and better in social media networks and platforms (e.g. by offering RSS feeds or social sharing buttons).

SMP

SMP is the abbreviation for “ Social M edia P latform(s)”, i.e. digital networks and media such as Twitter or Facebook.

social commerce

Commerce means "trade". Social commerce (also known as social shopping) is the involvement and active use of social networks to encourage customers to ultimately make purchases.

storytelling

The English word storytelling means "storytelling". In marketing, storytelling is used to convey dry knowledge or to address topics with the help of narratives and stories.
