Helena Regional Airport Code

The Helena Regional Airport has been in operation since 1936. It was established as an airfield for the Civilian Conservation Corps, and was part of the nationwide network of airfields built during this period. The airport was initially used by the CCC to transport personnel and supplies, as well as for training purposes. During World War II, the airport was taken over by the US Army Air Force and used as a training base for pilots. After the war, it returned to its civilian roots and experienced a period of growth in both passenger service and freight operations. From 1950 to 1965, more than two dozen airlines operated out of Helena Regional Airport, connecting travelers to destinations throughout Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and Washington. The airport also served as an ideal refueling stop for trans-continental flights from coast-to-coast. In 1964, a new terminal building was built that allowed for increased passenger capacity and improved services for travelers. By 1975, Helena Regional Airport had become one of Montana’s busiest airports with more than 140 daily arrivals and departures from numerous airlines including United Airlines, American Airlines and Trans World Airlines (TWA). Today Helena Regional Airport continues to serve travelers from across Montana with scheduled flights to major cities including Denver International Airport (DEN), Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport (MSP) and Seattle/Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
