Louis Armstrong New Orleans Int. Airport Code

Louis Armstrong New Orleans Int. Airport (MSY) has been an important part of the city’s history since its inception in 1946. It was originally known as Moisant Field, named after John Moisant, a famous aviator who was the first person to fly across the English Channel. The airport had its first commercial flight in July 1946 and quickly became the busiest airport in Louisiana. The airport underwent a major renovation in the late 1950s that included construction of two new runways and a new terminal building. The airport also began offering international flights, including destinations to Mexico and Canada, during this time period. In 1984, the airport was renamed Louis Armstrong International Airport to honor one of New Orleans’ most famous sons, jazz musician Louis Armstrong.

Since then, MSY has continued to grow and expand its services. In 1998, the airport opened Concourse C which added several new gates for domestic flights as well as international service from airlines such as Air France and British Airways. In 2006, MSY opened up Concourse D which added even more gates for domestic flights as well as international service from other airlines such as Delta and United Airlines. In 2011, a new runway was completed that significantly increased the capacity of MSY allowing it to accommodate larger aircraft and more passengers than ever before. Today MSY is one of the busiest airports in Louisiana with over 17 million passengers flying through each year on over 300 daily flights to over 60 different destinations across North America, Europe and Latin America.
