What is Chemistry?

Chemistry is the science dedicated to the study of matter, taking into account its composition, reactions and transformations.

The main areas in which Chemistry is divided are:

Biochemistry (Biological Chemistry): studies the chemical processes, reactions and interactions in living organisms.

Physical Chemistry (Physical Chemistry): discipline that combines the sciences of Physics and Chemistry to study the physical and chemical properties of matter. It encompasses other important disciplines such as chemical kinetics, quantum mechanics, spectroscopy and electrochemistry, chemical thermodynamics and thermochemistry.

Analytical chemistry: branch of chemistry that analyzes material samples to identify chemical composition and structure.

Mineral chemistry: branch of chemistry that studies metals and their combinations.

Organic Chemistry: branch of Chemistry that comprises the study of all carbon compounds, analyzing the structure, properties, composition and chemical reactions.

Inorganic Chemistry: branch of Chemistry that studies the properties and reactions of inorganic compounds – acids, bases, salts and oxides.

Nuclear Chemistry (Radioactivity): studies the material and energetic phenomena that take place in the nucleus of atoms.

A professional trained in the Chemistry course is called a “chemist”. His area of expertise is focused on the investigation of substances and compounds, and on the creation and development of new materials and chemicals in laboratories.
