Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport (AZO) opened its doors to the public in 1925. The airport was originally known as Kalamazoo Airport and was created by a group of local businessmen. The airport was the first of its kind in Kalamazoo County and served as an important hub for small aircrafts and other general aviation activities. In 1942, the U.S. Army Air Corps took over operation of the airport, renaming it Kellogg Field. During World War II, it became a training facility for B-17 bomber crews and P-47 fighter pilots. After the war, the airport returned to civilian control and was renamed Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport in 1950.
In 1962, the airport added its first jet service with flights to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Over the next two decades, AZO experienced rapid growth as airlines began offering more nonstop flights to major cities across the country including Detroit (DTW), Minneapolis (MSP), New York City (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), and Atlanta (ATL). This allowed AZO to become a major regional hub for air travel in Michigan and surrounding states. In recent years, Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport has seen an increase in passenger traffic due to its convenient location and competitive airfares offered by airlines operating out of AZO. Today, travelers can find direct flights from AZO to over 20 destinations throughout North America with service provided by Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and more.
AZO is the abbreviation code for Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport. According to Abbreviation Finder, AZO can also mean:
