Alexandria International Airport Abbreviation Code

Alexandria International Airport (AEX) has a long and storied history. It was first established in 1941, when the United States Army Air Corps leased land from the city of Alexandria in order to construct an airfield. The airfield was used to train pilots during World War II, and it eventually became a major hub for military transport flights. In 1965, it was opened to civilian traffic and began serving commercial airlines. The airport has since grown significantly, with new runways and terminals being added over the years. In 2005, a new terminal was built, which included an expanded concourse area and additional gates for larger aircrafts. Today, AEX serves over 1 million passengers annually, making it one of the busiest airports in the region. It is served by many domestic and international airlines, including Delta Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airways. Additionally, there are several cargo companies that operate out of AEX such as FedEx Express and UPS. The airport also offers a variety of amenities such as free Wi-Fi access throughout the airport terminals as well as rental car services from major companies like Hertz and Enterprise. With its convenient location just outside of downtown Alexandria and its close proximity to Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR), AEX is a popular choice for travelers looking for easy access to both cities.
