Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport Code

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) is located in the capital of Louisiana, and has been a main airport hub for the city since its opening in 1933. The airport was originally known as Harding Field, named after former President Warren G. Harding. It was initially used by the United States Army Air Corps, but later became a commercial airport. In 1947, it was renamed Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport after the city of Baton Rouge and served as an important port of entry for visitors coming to Louisiana from other states.

The airport experienced rapid growth in the 1950s and 1960s due to increased air traffic in the area. The new terminal building opened in 1956, and two runways were constructed to accommodate larger aircrafts such as jets. In 1968, a new control tower was built to manage air traffic more efficiently. By 1972, BTR had become one of the busiest airports in Louisiana with over 200 daily flights arriving and departing from its gates every day. In addition to passenger services, BTR also began offering cargo services during this period as well as providing facilities for private aircraft operators.

Over the years, various renovations have been made to keep up with modern aviation standards such as improving runway safety measures, adding more parking spots for planes and vehicles, updating terminal buildings and concourses, installing digital signage systems throughout the airport grounds and installing high-speed wireless internet access points for passengers’ convenience. The most recent renovation occurred in 2014 when a new $50 million terminal expansion project was completed that added 25 gates to accommodate larger aircrafts along with other amenities like improved baggage claim areas and additional seating areas for passengers waiting for their flights.
