After the war, the airport was transferred to the City of Clarksburg, West Virginia and has been publicly owned since then. In 1949, the first commercial flight at CKB was operated by Allegheny Airlines with service to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since then, CKB has become an important gateway for air travelers in North Central West Virginia and surrounding areas. The airport underwent a major renovation in 2006 which included a new terminal building and expanded runways and taxiways to accommodate larger aircraft. In 2011, United Express began offering nonstop flights from CKB to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). This made CKB the only airport in West Virginia with direct flights to a hub airport. The airport is 10 kilometers east of Clarksburg near Bridgeport. Passengers arriving by car should drive on US Highway 50 towards Bridgeport and at the end of the town follow the signs on Airport Road to the airport.
