Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport (ITH) is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, just southeast of Ithaca. The airport has been in operation since the mid-1920s, when it was a small airfield known as “Tompkins County Airport.” In 1941, the federal government took over operations and renamed it “Ithaca Army Air Field.” During World War II, the airport served as a training facility for Army Air Corps pilots. After the war ended, commercial flights began operating out of ITH in 1947. In 1950, a new passenger terminal was constructed and ITH officially became an international airport.
In recent decades, ITH has steadily grown to become one of Upstate New York’s busiest airports. The original passenger terminal underwent multiple renovations and expansions over the years to accommodate more travelers and larger aircrafts. In 2004, the airport was renamed “Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport” to better reflect its status as an international gateway for both business and leisure travelers from around the world. Today, ITH provides direct flights to many major cities across North America with convenient connections to destinations throughout Europe and Asia.
