Minot International Airport Abbreviation Code

Minot International Airport (MOT) was originally built in 1928 as a municipal airport. The airport was owned and operated by the city of Minot, North Dakota, and served both military and civilian aircraft. In the late 1940s, Minot Air Base was established on the site of the existing airport. The base was a major training center for fighter pilots during World War II, and several hangars were added to accommodate aircraft used in training exercises. During this time, the civilian side of the airport saw an increase in commercial air traffic as more airlines began offering service to Minot.

The 1970s saw further development at MOT with the construction of a new terminal building and additional runways. This allowed for increased commercial air traffic from airlines such as Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines, and American Airlines. The 1980s brought even more growth to MOT with additional upgrades to the terminal building as well as new hangars for general aviation aircraft. By 1990, MOT had become one of the busiest airports in North Dakota with over 200 daily flights serving destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Today MOT continues to be an important hub for air travel in North Dakota with numerous connections throughout North America available daily.
