Nashville International Airport (BNA) was officially opened in 1937 and was initially known as Berry Field. The airport was named after Colonel Harry S. Berry, the former Director of Aviation for the state of Tennessee. The airport was built to serve as a hub for air transport in the region and quickly became an important center for air travel in the Southeast. Over the years, Nashville International Airport has seen several expansions and renovations. In 1948, the first commercial terminal was constructed, followed by a new runway and additional hangars in 1952. In 1966, a larger passenger terminal building with more gates opened to accommodate increasing air traffic demand. As of 2019, BNA is served by 17 airlines offering flights to more than 75 domestic and international destinations. The airport also offers a variety of amenities including dining options, shopping outlets, car rental services, WiFi access and much more. Additionally, the airport is home to an observation deck that offers visitors stunning views of downtown Nashville and its surrounding areas.
