Ogdensburg International Airport was established in 1927 when the city of Ogdensburg purchased a large plot of land from the Ogdensburg Airport Corporation. The airport was initially used for airmail and passenger flights, as well as for recreational activities such as glider rides and parachute jumps. In the 1930s, the airport underwent significant improvements, including the construction of a terminal building and a new runway. During World War II, it was used as an auxiliary airfield by the U.S. Army Air Forces and saw an increase in traffic due to military personnel being stationed there. After the war, commercial flights resumed with service to Montreal, Toronto and other cities in Canada. The 1950s saw further expansion of Ogdensburg International Airport with new hangars being built and more airlines offering service to destinations in Canada and beyond. Throughout its history, Ogdensburg International Airport has continued to evolve with upgrades to its facilities to accommodate larger aircrafts and more passengers. Today it is one of upstate New York’s busiest airports providing scheduled passenger airline service to several major US cities including Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore and Washington DC.
