Providence – Theodore Francis Green State Airport Code

Theodore Francis Green State Airport (known as Providence Airport) is located in Warwick, Rhode Island and serves the greater Providence area. The airport was established in 1931 as Hillsgrove State Airport. It was named after Theodore Francis Green, a former Governor of Rhode Island, who served from 1933 to 1937. The airport underwent several expansions and renovations over the years to accommodate the growing demand for air travel in the region. In 1942, the United States Navy took control of the airport during World War II and used it as a Naval Auxiliary Air Station. After the war, Hillsgrove State Airport resumed civilian operations and was renamed Theodore Francis Green State Airport in 1950.

In 1982, an expansion project increased the size of the terminal building and added new gates and concourses to accommodate larger aircrafts. In 1996, a major renovation project updated many of the existing facilities at the airport including a new parking garage with over 2,000 spaces and a newly renovated passenger terminal with modern amenities such as restaurants, newsstands, gift shops and more. In 2010, another expansion project added two new gates to serve international flights from Canada and Europe. Over time Providence Airport has become one of New England’s busiest airports with nearly 8 million passengers using it every year for both domestic and international travel from locations around the world.
