Redding Municipal Airport was originally established in 1941 as a small, private airstrip. At the time, Redding was a small town and the airport served as a place for local pilots to take off and land. In 1943, the United States Army Air Forces took control of the airport and used it as an auxiliary airfield during World War II. The airport eventually returned to civilian use in 1945 and underwent several expansions over the years. In 1964, the airport was renamed Redding Municipal Airport, reflecting its status as an official part of the city’s infrastructure. Over time, it became increasingly popular among private pilots in Northern California due to its location on a major north-south route between Sacramento and Oregon. Today, Redding Municipal Airport is home to over 100 aircrafts and provides services to both commercial airlines and general aviation traffic. It features two asphalt runways that are each over 6,000 feet long, providing ample space for planes of all sizes to take off or land safely. With convenient access to downtown Redding via Highway 44 or Interstate 5, travelers have easy access from anywhere in Northern California.
