Officially the change of name of the movement of the GLS to the today well-known LGBT if he gave in June 2008, the National Conference held in Brasilia.
The LGBT movement has been the target of much prejudice, especially because of a few extravagances like the gay parade or options held by the group and undertaken by some of its members as the sex change, which causes much weirdness, especially for the more conservative sectors of society linked to traditional values such as family and religion.
However, the LGBT movement has gained a lot of space and getting each time the most significant achievements, being defended both by elected politicians, non-governmental organizations (NGOS), artists, intellectuals, the media and etc.
