Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) was established in 1947 when the city of Cincinnati purchased 1,000 acres of land in Boone County, Kentucky for the purpose of building a new regional airport. The land was acquired from several local farmers and the airport officially opened on June 19, 1947. From its beginnings as a small regional airport, CVG quickly grew to become a major international hub and by 1960 it had become the largest hub in the region. CVG was originally served by several different airlines, including United Airlines and Eastern Air Lines. In 2015, CVG handled nearly 8 million passengers making it one of the busiest airports in Ohio/Kentucky region.
