Palm Springs International Airport Code

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is located in the Coachella Valley of Southern California, just minutes from downtown Palm Springs. It is owned by the City of Palm Springs and operated by the Riverside County Economic Development Agency. PSP has served as a gateway to the desert for more than 80 years and is one of the most popular airports in California.

The airport’s history began in 1936 when it was first opened as a municipal airport. At that time, it was known as Palm Springs Municipal Airport and was used primarily for general aviation. In 1942, during World War II, the airport was taken over by the United States Army Air Forces as an auxiliary training base and renamed Palm Springs Army Airfield. After the war ended, it was returned to civilian control and renamed Palm Springs International Airport in 1947. In 1961, PSP became a port of entry with customs services being established at that time.

Over the years, PSP has seen many improvements and expansions including a new terminal building opened in 1982 which doubled its size from 40,000 square feet to 80,000 square feet; new runways in 1983; additional gates added in 2000; and most recently an expansion project completed in 2018 which included upgraded facilities for both passengers and cargo operations. The airport now offers flight services to major cities throughout North America including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas and Phoenix among others. In addition to domestic flights, international flights are also available with direct service to Canada and Mexico.
