The Bismarck Municipal Airport has a long and storied history. It was built in 1920 to serve as an airfield for the nearby military base, and for the first few years of its existence, it was used primarily as a refueling station for military aircraft. During World War II, the airport saw heavy use by the US Air Force, and it was also used by commercial airlines. After the war ended, the airport continued to be used as a refueling station and for commercial flights. In 1959, it became a public airport and started offering international flights. Over time, more services were added to the airport such as car rentals and food services. The airport has seen many upgrades over the years including new runways, updated terminals and improved facilities. Today, Bismarck Municipal Airport is one of North Dakota’s busiest airports with over 300 daily flights to destinations around the world. It is also home to several major airlines such as United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines who offer direct routes from Bismarck to cities across North America. The airport is also home to many charter companies that provide private jet services for businesses or leisure trips.
