What is HDTV?
HDTV is the acronym in English of High-Definition Television. It consists of a digital television data transmission system, with a higher resolution than traditional formats.
In order to receive the signal on HDTV, the televisions must be equipped with DTV (digital television), a technology that began to be deployed initially in the United States during the 1990s. Currently, all televisions produced already have a DTV device which allows playback of the signal in HDTV.
Cleaner images without the classic “drizzle” in the images are some of the advantages of the HDTV signal. TVs with this technology can reach minimum resolutions of 720 progressive lines (1280x720p).
When the television in HDTV reaches its maximum resolution, it is then called full HD, which means with full high definition.
HDTV Ready
HDTV Ready televisions can not stream video images in high definition without the possibility of embedding a DTV converter.
The solution to receiving HDTV signals on a HDTV Ready TV is to purchase an external digital converter, called set top box.
