What is WWF?
WWF is the acronym for the World Wide Fund for Nature, which stands for World Wildlife Fund and Nature, is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) with the aim of conserving, investigating and recovering the environment. In the United States and Canada, it is still called by the old name, World Wildlife Fund.
WWF was founded in 1961 in Switzerland by a group of scientists concerned about the devastation of nature. The name was changed in 1986, because the NGO expanded and increased its area of activity, because it takes care of the preservation of the environment as a whole, and not only of the animals, but the acronym was kept the same.
Headquartered in Switzerland, WWF has become a worldwide reference in environmental preservation and protection, but has representation in major countries around the world. The NGO is supported by people of different backgrounds, and is the largest independent organization of its kind in the world, with more than 5 million members working in more than 90 countries with more than 1,300 environmental conservation projects.
