Washington Dulles International Airport Code

Washington Dulles International Airport was first proposed in the 1940s as a way to connect the Washington D.C. area with the rest of the world. The airport was officially dedicated in 1962 and named after John Foster Dulles, who served as Secretary of State under President Eisenhower. After its dedication, the airport quickly became one of the busiest airports in America and served an average of over 25 million passengers each year by 1989. Over time, Washington Dulles International Airport has seen many expansions and renovations to keep up with its growing popularity and demands. In 1998, a new terminal was added to keep up with rising passenger numbers and provide more efficient service for travelers. The airport also made significant improvements to its security systems following 9/11, installing more advanced screening procedures and increasing staff numbers at checkpoints.

In 2011, a multi-billion dollar expansion project began that included a new concourse, additional gates, and an automated train system between terminals A & B. The expansion project was completed in 2017 and helped make Washington Dulles International Airport one of the most modern airports in North America. Today, Washington Dulles International Airport serves over 31 million passengers per year from all over the world and continues to grow through investments in infrastructure improvements like adding more parking spaces or expanding retail options within terminals.
