Long Beach Airport Abbreviation Code

Long Beach Airport, also known as Daugherty Field, is located in Long Beach, California. It is one of the oldest airports in the United States and began operations in 1923. The airport was initially used by local farmers to transport their produce to Los Angeles. However, it soon became a popular destination for airmail and passenger flights. In 1926, it was officially named Daugherty Field after William Daugherty, a local businessman who had donated land for the airport’s construction.

In 1932, Long Beach Airport became the first municipal airport in California to have an air traffic control tower. During World War II, it served as an important military base for training pilots and transporting troops and supplies overseas. After the war, the airport continued to grow with new runways being added and new services such as commercial flights being offered. In 1949, a major renovation of the airport was completed which included new terminal buildings and hangars. The following year saw the installation of an instrument landing system which allowed planes approaching from any direction to be safely guided into the airport during bad weather conditions. Over time Long Beach Airport has become one of Southern California’s busiest airports with over 1 million passengers flying through its gates each year. Today it offers a wide range of services including scheduled commercial flights, private charter flights, helicopter tours, aircraft maintenance services and pilot training programs.
