Syracuse Hancock International Airport, located in Syracuse, New York, opened in 1949. It was originally named Syracuse Municipal Airport and was built on the site of a former Army airfield. The airport was renamed for Major General Roscoe C. Hancock in 1964, after his service in World War II and the Korean War. Over the years, the airport has undergone several expansions and renovations to accommodate an increased number of passengers and flights. In 1990, a new terminal building was constructed to replace the original facility that had been in use since 1949. This new terminal included more space for parking and two additional gates to accommodate larger aircrafts.
In recent years, Syracuse Hancock International Airport has seen significant growth due to its convenient location near major highways and its proximity to several major cities in New York State including Albany and Buffalo as well as cities in Pennsylvania such as Erie and Pittsburgh. The airport also offers direct flights to many domestic destinations such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Miami and many others across the United States. Additionally, there are international flights available from this airport including direct flights to Canada’s Toronto Pearson International Airport. With all these connections available from Syracuse Hancock International Airport it’s no wonder why it has become one of the busiest airports in Upstate New York with over 2 million passengers served annually!
