Buffalo Niagara International Airport Code

Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BNIA) opened in 1926 as Buffalo Municipal Airport on land leased from the City of Buffalo. The airport was originally used for airmail and passenger flights, and was an important link between Buffalo and the rest of the country. In 1939, the airport was renamed to Buffalo Niagara International Airport, reflecting its regional importance. Through the years, BNIA has grown in size and passenger volume, with a new terminal opening in 1997. Terminal A was designed to accommodate larger planes and provide more space for passengers. In addition, a new parking garage was built in 2001 to meet the rising demand for parking spaces. Since then, BNIA has continued to expand with new concessions, restaurants and shops added to Terminal A in 2009. As one of the busiest airports in New York State, BNIA now serves over 6 million passengers annually with nonstop flights to over 20 domestic cities as well as numerous international destinations.
