Pasco Tri-Cities Airport Abbreviation Code

The Pasco Tri-Cities Airport opened in April of 1959 as the Tri-Cities Regional Airport. It was built on a 1,000 acre site and was originally intended to serve the three cities of Pasco, Richland, and Kennewick. The airport was initially served by four airlines: Northwest Orient, United Airlines, Western Airlines, and TWA. In its first year of operation it handled nearly 25,000 passengers and over 200 tons of freight. The airport served as a vital link between the three cities in the region as well as providing connections to other parts of the country.

Over time, passenger traffic at the airport began to grow steadily with an increase in flights and destinations available. In 1983 a new terminal building was opened that featured all modern amenities such as restaurants and shops for travelers. This new terminal allowed for even more growth in passenger numbers with more than 100 daily departures by 1990. The airport also began offering cargo services which allowed for additional economic development in the area. In addition to increased commercial passenger traffic, private aviation also saw an increase with more than 500 aircraft based at the airport by 2010.

In recent years Pasco Tri-Cities Airport has seen a number of improvements including runway extensions that have allowed larger aircraft to land at the facility as well as improved lighting systems and navigational aids for pilots. The airport is now served by several major airlines such as Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines providing service to many locations around the world including Seattle/Tacoma International Airport which is located just over 100 miles away from Pasco Tri-Cities Airport.
